Google has various options for how files are uploaded. If the file to be uploaded is a Microsoft Word or Excel document, generally it can be converted into a Google Docs format. If the file is a PDF, it is generally recommended to NOT select convert text from uploaded PDF and image files.
If a file is a simple PowerPoint document, it can be converted. If the file is a complex PowerPoint or a complex Excel spreadsheet, it may be best NOT to convert to Google Docs format
To ensure you have the correct upload settings, do the following:
- Go to your Google Doc/Drive home
- Click on the “gear” icon (i.e. Settings)
- Chose Upload settings
- Check Convert uploaded files to Google Docs format
- Check Confirm settings before each upload
